Vision and Mission

caroline brown, Leap program manager

The mission of the Environmental Support Center is to promote the quality of the natural environment, human health and community sustainability by increasing the organizational effectiveness of regional, state and local organizations working on environmental issues and for environmental justice.

We work to strengthen the strategic, fundraising, communications, technological and organizational capacity of those groups. We support cooperative efforts among regional, state and local environmental organizations and groups representing low-income communities, people of color, and others currently relatively powerless in American society. We provide opportunities for strengthening paid staff and volunteer leaders in regional, state and local organizations working on environmental issues.

ESC believes that the health and well-being of regional, state and local organizations working on environmental issues is essential to the progress of the environmental movement.

The Environmental Support Center helps organizations do this  by providing resources.  As a result, grassroots organizations can achieve their goals --- a clean, healthy environment (clean air, water, and lands) for all.

One of our most important activities is long term work on dismantling racism. Dismantling racism removes the barrier to power and access for grassroots organizations by building capacity for transformation. Board and staff have gone through trainings together and have begun to address the impact of racism in American society on our organization and on our work.

ESC recently celebrated our fifteenth anniversary. Read on . . .
